TELL THE TRUTH, AND IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE ADMIT IT:

I have a confession… It is Thursday morning and I am just now starting to work on my blog post. I know what you are thinking…”SAYYY WHATTT?!!?!?? What do you do all day you have plenty of time to sit down and write a blog during the week…?!” I know I know…. I suck at life!! “But Gentry what about all your advice about planning ahead, creating a schedule to fit in all your important tasks?! Not being prepared isn’t very good decision making now is it?!!” I said I know get off my back!!!

When I was frantically wondering this morning if I was going to get a blog post out on time, and if I should put away any valuable items from the front of my house just in case someone decides to take advantage of Rule #1; freedom to egg my house if I do not post at least once a week, I get a text from someone who shall remain nameless, but I see her 5 days a week, she is practically raising my two boys and her name rhymes with Harry. (Rule #2-Gentry run on sentences may increase when I’m pressed for time!!) She said she was excited it was Thursday blog day.  I think, “Oh crap I can’t disappoint an eager fan… and SWEET… movin’ on up in the world… I have an eager fan!!” I then think, “Oh no if I don’t post something her and her girls will surely do a drive by in the minivan with a couple dozen eggs!!”

This is about the time I remember something I heard this morning I really liked, and from none other than the re-elected governor of New Jersey Chris Christie. This has NOTHING to do with politics so don’t worry I’m not about to start getting all elephant vs. donkey on you!  He said (Rule #4…I’m slightly paraphrasing because I heard it on the radio and I’m not sure the exact words….AND yes I listen to the news on the radio on my way to work! I’m old and lame I know… next thing you know it I’m going to be calling Facebook “The net!”) He said something along the lines of “Tell the truth, and if you make a mistake just admit it!! Humans are forgiving. Sometimes we misspeak, but if we just admit we were wrong instead of trying to give a ‘lawyer’s’ response people are much more likely to give you a second chance. We need leaders not lawyers!”

I just really liked this comment, especially the “leaders not lawyers” because (sorry if I have any lawyer readers) but lawyers tend to say or do anything to get others believe their point of view, their job is to be right, but I think being a good leader doesn’t mean that you have to always be right. I mean I suppose you should be on the right track more often than not like you should lead your people more towards clean water, more jobs, and coming together and helping each other and less towards drunken nights and crack cocaine (< –sorry mayor of Toronto… I couldn’t help myself!) but sometimes things don’t go according to plan so just admit your mistake and start working toward a better tomorrow. I mean, I don’t know, I’d rather have a boss or leader that can admit mistakes because mistakes are where we find our greatest growth… call me crazy!!

Speaking of crazy…husbands… (because I’m sure I have a lot of husbands eagerly waiting to read one of my blogs!) before you go all, “Gentry told me to always tell the truth so why are you mad that I told you that you look fat in that dress…?!” That would just be craziness!!!! Remember that truth is a fact and how someone looks is an opinion so be sure to not get the two confused. So though it might be fact that your wife is weighing in at the 90th percentile, it is your opinion how she looks in a dress!! Feel free to be misleading in your opinions!!

So if you have made a mistake just be honest!! Shout it from a roof top “I’VE DONE CRACK COCAINE!!” No not me of course… I’m just telling you what the mayor of Toronto said!! Truth is though I totally threw this bad boy together on my lunch break today… Lo siento my trusted followers… thanks for reading… I will be more prepared next week... AND THAT’S A FACT!!!

TELL THE TRUTH… ADMIT WHEN YOU’VE MADE A MISTAKE… BE A LEADER… DON’T EVER EVER TELL YOUR WIFE SHE LOOKS FAT!!
